Pine Tree Camp

The Viking Council’s Junior Leader Training Conference

The 2002 Pine Tree Camp will be held at Stearns Camp on:

 June 9th - 15th  and  June 16th - 22rd

Contact the Council Service Center for information about the 2002 course!

What is the conference?

The Junior Leader Training Conference is a seven-day outdoor experience for boy leaders in support of the Scoutmaster’s responsibility for the training of troop junior leaders. It is an official course of the B.S.A. and is conducted by the Viking Council Training Committee.

What is it’s purpose?

Scouting recognizes that Scoutmasters have the responsibility of training their own junior leaders. The purpose of this conference is not to assume that role, but to support it! The objectives of the conference are…

…To give participants the confidence and knowledge to run the troop program.

…To give participants a basic knowledge of the eleven skills of leadership and help them relate these skills to their troop responsibilities.

…To give participants the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with Scouts from other troops.

…To create an atmosphere where Scouts will experience "Scouting at it’s best."

…To enhance the relationship between the participant and his Scoutmaster.

…To have fun!

Who may attend?

Each participant must be a First Class Scout, 13 years old, and currently filling a leadership position in the troop as Senior Patrol Leader or Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, or likely to assume one of these positions soon.   This course fills on a first-come, first-served basis due to the high demand.  Because of this, Troops are limited to only one Scout per Troop.  It is important that you submit your registrations ASAP after receiving them.

Is the Scoutmaster involved?

The conference is intended to strengthen the relationship between the junior leader and his Scoutmaster.   Scoutmasters can get additional information regarding the training involved and how they can become more involved in the development of their participants by contacting the Council Service Center.   Ask for Steve Stobbs (763-545-4550).   Special information sessions can be arranged at Roundtables, as well, with both adult and Scout staff explaining the programís purposes and expectations.

The ScoutingBSA.org web site is a legacy site of the Viking Council BSA, now Northern Star Council.
This site was the original council site and was active from 1996 to 2002 and run by volunteers.  As the web became more important to Scouting, the council took over with paid staff.  This site is no longer maintained but is an interesting snapshot of an early Scouting web site.    You can share your comments
using our on-line form or send a message to the Webmaster.   Thank you for visiting!
